Wireless technology firms see business opening up

Verizon Wireless and AT&T won’t be the only winners from the Federal Communication Commission’s $19 billion bandwidth auction, which closed in late March. The FCC and industry groups favor opening wireless networks to any devices and software, and some local companies are poised to seize upon an expected boom in the market for smart phones and applications. Those companies include Frederick-based Metrico Wireless Inc., which tests the quality of wireless devices, and Herndon-based 4DK Technologies Inc., which offers software that enables otherwise incompatible applications to communicate across wireless networks…  Read more
