SCout’s telco-grade core architecture houses an ever-growing ecosystem

Hardware and OS

To ensure consistent performance with predictable operational costs, SCout is built on top of industry-leading ATCA blade server hardware from RadiSys®. The 10GbE backplane fabric for low-latency transport provides a broad portfolio of tested hardware solutions, from general purpose compute modules to DSP and telco interfaces that support a variety of applications. SCout hardware is powered by MontaVista CGE, a carrier-grade Linux OS-hardened operating system with soft real-time extensions to ensure quality of service controls for critical application tasks. The extended support cycle far exceeds standard Linux OS vendor software lifecycles. (www.mvista.com)

Middleware

At the heart of SCout is ENEA Element middleware: Polyhedra and ConfD – a fully integrated solutions suite providing management instrumentation, high performance distributed inter-process communication and a real-time relational database with high availability and software fault tolerance services for planned and unplanned interruptions. Software

SCout houses resource adapters that facilitate interoperation between apps (eg: different IM platforms), as well as service chaining, comparable to SDP service orchestration (eg: voice IM to SMS). By creating these adapters that can interconnect any kind of application or service irrespective of their individual technologies, the SCout switch provides an environment where new apps can be developed in a matter of weeks. Reducing the ‘time to market’ process results in a significant reduction in the cost of developing new, feature-rich apps.

Support products

A comprehensive family of supporting infrastructure solutions, from provisioning to billing/mediation and monitoring/performance management, are available as optional layered products to SCout.

Deployment options

Deployments are flexible: from fully managed hosted solutions to turnkey operations on customer premises, either in AC-powered datacenters or NEBS-compliant central office environments.

Specific hardware configuration and sizing are application-dependent. The SCout system is highly scalable and easily accommodates customer growth. Pre- and post-sales support and professional services are available for a tailored solution to fit customer needs and to help smooth the integration and deployment process.
