SCout opens up proprietary applications to internet services – and as a result, helped ALU’s ng Connect Proof of Concept for Mobile Enhanced Reality win second place in the 2009 CTIA E-Tech Awards :)
4DK is a proud member of Alcatel-Lucent’s ng Connect program: a diverse ecosystem of infrastructure, devices, content, and applications for both mobile and fixed broadband networks including 4G and LTE.
For their Mobile Enhanced Reality app, the network uses image recognition to determine what you’re looking at and feeds relevant data to your mobile device. The application connects the real world to the digital world by allowing users to instantly access digital content associated to a real object that has been captured by the device camera. 4DK facilitated the distribution of the information to additional media.

How it works (first demonstrated at Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona):
1. When the user takes a picture of a movie poster, he is presented with information and services related to the movie, eg: synopsis of the movie, actors bios, showtimes, ticket price, etc.
2. SCout allows this application to connect to the external world by allowing to share this content with the user’s social networks and buddy lists. Via SCout, user discoveries are announced to:
- Blogger or
- shared with the user’s buddy list via SMS or an IMS-based IPTV system
