WHO ARE WE?
WHY THE NAME?
4DK is "geek speak" for 4 degrees Kelvin. Which, if you know about the Kelvin Scale, is really cool - literally (-269C/-452F).
Four degrees of separation...
(1) "Kelvin" is named after the British physicist and engineer William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin (1824-1907).
(2) 4 degrees Kelvin is the temperature of liquid Helium (-269C/-452F). In 1911, Mercury was cooled to 4 degrees Kelvin for the first time.
(3) When Mercury was cooled to 4 degrees Kelvin (4DK), this was the first demonstration of superconductivity (the elimination of resistance to increase performance). We believe that the fundamental drivers for superconductivity research - elimination of resistance to increase performance - was a perfect correlation with our efforts.
(4) Being geeks, we had to tweak it a bit, of course. So, "SuperConnectivity" was born. Next time you hear 4DK - just think supercool 4DK is eliminating resistance to new technologies through SuperConnectivity.
